Book Design

Apropos is a bookazine addressing the history, nuance, and solutions of cultural appropriation. This issue focuses on how Mexico’s rich culture has been distorted and stolen by dominant powers seeking a profit. The book gives a platform to affected voices while also celebrating indigenous artisanal traditions.

The floral icons featured throughout the book showcase the style of  handmade Talavera tiles that decorate Mexican buildings. The color choice of blue and white references the natural indigo dyes used by indigenous Otomi artisans to create popular Tenango embroidery.
